How to Enjoy Travelling for Work

Many people think travelling for work is a glamorous affair. You know better. Work travel often involves the inside of hotel rooms, the inside of board rooms, and the inside of airplanes. Travelling means dealing with jet lag, endless waiting, and living out of a suitcase. There really isn’t much time for sightseeing either. So can you really enjoy travelling for work? Read on to find out!

Eat Healthy Food

Since you’re usually dining on the company’s dime, choose high-quality, healthy food for your meals. You don’t have to take the time to prepare things yourself, and you can usually choose healthy options from menus. People who eat healthfully generally experience lower stress, feel less tired, and have less health problems down the line. You’ll generally enjoy your time more while travelling if you feel better on the go.

Go for a Jog

Since you’ll be staying in hotels, you can take advantage of the complimentary gym to stay fit. Regular exercise will improve your stamina, help you experience more restful sleep, and prevent the onset of fatigue. However, if you want to glean these health benefits and see a little bit of the cities you visit, you can opt to take a jog around your hotel. Even if you’re not visiting a high-profile location, you can enjoy the local colour of the city and maybe discover some sights you’d like to visit later on.

Get Elite Status

It really pays to build loyalty to specific airlines or other travel services. If you use enough miles, you can be upgraded to platinum status. That means you will be far more comfortable during the inevitable delays that accompany air travel. A number of perks come with elite status. You will get rebooked first when your flights are delayed or cancelled. You get to board planes first, so you spend less time waiting and more time relaxing in your seat. You also get free perks like upgraded snacks during the flight (which is nice because many airlines don’t include snacks on short flights anymore). If you’re going to be spending a lot of your time on a plane, make it as enjoyable of an experience as possible.

Plan Ahead

Most airlines offer free Wi-Fi during flights and all airports have free internet access. Take the opportunity before you board your flight to plan the next step upon arriving at your destination. Plan a taxi, shuttle, or airport transport service to get you to your hotel. Figure out if you’ll have any free time to see the sights. If you do, figure out a short list of places you might like to go. You could research restaurants near your hotel and take advantage of the local cuisine. If there are any museums or local monuments, make time to see them. Short sightseeing stints are good for getting your legs moving, and the information will stimulate your mind.
